Location based services (LBS)

Location Based Services (LBS) are by far the largest user of satellite navigation services, and this is not likely to change as we continue to depend upon a growing number of mobile apps for navigation, personal tracking, emergency calling, gaming, advertising, social interaction and general well-being. Almost 3 billion mobile applications currently in use rely on positioning information.

EGNOS improves the accuracy of the GNSS signals used in LBS, mainly by reducing the negative impact of ionosphere on the calculated position. This benefits consumer applications that make use of more accurate location information, especially in remote areas where network-based methods are less effective.
