Monday, July 12, 2021

Access here the new EGNOS bulletin Summer’ 21 edition to read unique success stories about the use of EGNOS in various fields.

We will start presenting the case of Wideroe’s fleet dedicated to serving the demanding Public Service Obligation (PSO) network at several destinations along the Norwegian coast, followed by the interesting case of BABCOCK, the Scandinavian Air Ambulance company whose entire fleet is fully LPV capable. They are a great example of how EGNOS can assist in a safe straight-in landing.

The case of airBaltic, the Latvian-based airline known worldwide for its innovation and punctuality, is also presented in this issue. In 2020, airBaltic celebrated its 25th anniversary with a fleet of Airbus A220s, the first aircraft of its class to incorporate EGNOS and LPV functions as standard.

Other market cases are also addressed in this bulletin. We cover the agricultural case of Pulverizadores Fede, a company dedicated to the design and manufacture of air blast sprayers and trailed mist blowers. They employ EGNOS as “it improves the positioning of their solutions, which involves precision spraying, traceability, and technological proactivity”.

After this article, you will find a report on the contribution of EGNOS to the INFOMAR surveys. INFOMAR is the Irish national marine mapping programme. Its surveys primarily collect bathymetric data using multibeam echo sounders. All coastal vessels operated by the Geological Survey of Ireland use EGNOS to support real-time navigation within Irish waters, up to 30 nm offshore.

Learn also how EGNOS, in synergy with COPERNICUS/Sentinel-2, helps to improve drainage systems and variable rate fertilization of crops.

Other news you can take a look at are:

  • An interview with REGA where they show their experience with EGNOS in helicopter operations.
  • An article summarising the latest status of the Standardisation for SBAS L1 Maritime Receivers at IEC process.
  • The results of the EGNOS User Satisfaction Survey.
